Where to Eat/Drink around Stepney Lane
The Tyne Bar- Ouseburn
Just a 16 Minute walk, down the beautiful Quayside, Tyne Bar is a great location for an afternoon drink and snack stop. With a huge outdoor seating area, you can enjoy the beautiful views of the Millennium Bridge, while making your way through their fabulous menu of Gin’s, Vodka’s, Beer’s and Ciders. If you are more of a hot drink fan, the Lotus Biscoff Hot Chocolate is a must try! Of course, with an afternoon of drinking, food will definitely be required, and this is definitely the place to get it! With a varied menu, you can grab Wraps, Burgers and Nachos, however, my recommendation is with the Frankfurters. With the option of Classic, Chilli, Pulled Pork and Vegan options, there is really something for everyone.
The Tanner Arms - Newgate St
Just a couple of minutes’ walk from Stepney Lane, the Tanner’s is a favourite for a quick drink in the sun. They also boast a great street food style menu, (Scranners Arms) with a huge variety of Burgers, Dogs, Nachos and Topped Fries. Food can be ordered to eat in the venue, or for delivery, perfect for any Stepney resident nursing a hangover, or after a long day of Uni. For any fry up fans, they offer an impressive Breakfast Menu to start off your day right. What’s even more exciting, is that with indoor dining re-opening, they have launched their All Day Breakfast, meaning you can pick up Waffles, Pancakes or Stottie’s anytime of the day. With Vegan options also available, the Tanners caters for everyone, no matter your preferences.
The Great British Cupcakery - Queen St
This local cupcakery has become very well known in the North East. Whether that be for it’s stunning cakes, delicious afternoon teas, or not forgetting it’s beautiful pink and floral décor, If you haven’t already checked this place out, I fully recommend you to do it NOW! As a huge milkshake fan, I always go for one of their ‘Geet Big Shakes’, which come piled to the brim with cream/chocolate/doughnuts/waffles/cake, depending which flavour you go for. In addition to how great they taste, they are also probably the most Instagram-able shake you have ever seen!
Khai Khai - Queen St
Located just off the Quayside, Khai Khai offers authentic Indian food, cooked with the traditional method of smoke and fire. This restaurant was opened at the end of 2020, and although due to lockdown restrictions only allowing takeaways at the time, it has already built up an excellent reputation. Khai Khai has been raved about by many a food blogger and critic across the North East, and definitely with good reason! With such varied menu’s, there is truly something for everyone, and no matter what the time of day, Khai Khai is definitely the place to eat on the Quayside. They also offer an exclusive ‘Fire It Up at Home’, which allows you to order your favourite dishes for collection/delivery, then recreate the delicious tastes of Khai Khai from the comfort of your own kitchen.
Made Deli - Melbourne St
This deli is perfectly located just down the bank from Stepney Lane, and is open from 8am to curb your cravings. They do a fantastic range of sandwiches/paninis and toasties, and also provide the option to build your own, to tailor to your personal tastes. As you can probably tell. I am a massive fry up fan, and love when venues do an all day Breakfast. Who says Hash Browns and Bacon should only be eaten in the morning? However, what makes Made Deli’s all day Breakfast even better, is that once again, you can choose the items you wish to include. If you have a sweet tooth, their selection of cakes is not to be missed out on. The deli can get slightly busy around midday, however, for those of you on a schedule, you can order in advance to collect!
